DE-ICING MATERIALS

As part of our Snow Plowing & Ice Control Management program, we provide a specially "Treated Salt" called; Magic-0

OR

Straight Salt (untreated) called; Halite Rock Salt.

Pre-treatment applications Using a Pre-treatment/Anti-icing strategy to parking lots, drives, entrances, exits, & walkways ... or any area where the policy is to provide a high level of service or a bare pavement policy can produce several significant benefits:

  • Prevents snow/ice from bonding to pavement.
  • Provides better pavement conditions, (improved friction) can be achieved if ice formation is prevented.
  • Breaks up ice/packed snow.
  • Less chemical is required to prevent the formation of ice than to remove ice after it has bonded to the pavement.
  • Anti-icing applications have been reported to last for several days.
  • Keeps snow in plowable condition (slush).
  • Melts glare/black ice.
  • Melts snow/ice residue after plowing.

    Product Benifits

  • The "Treated Magic-0 Salt" is regular rock salt that has been treated with a liquid organic byproduct along with chloride additives. It is safe to use on concrete, is non-corrosive, does not harm curbside grassed areas or plants, and continues to melt ice to below -30ºF.

Halite (Sodium Chloride/Rock Salt) is a commonly used bulk deicer, but it has limited effectiveness in very cold temperatures. Alone, it will not melt ice at temperatures below 20º F, and it may be harmful to vegetation, but is considered safe for concrete.
